COMBINE FAMILIES Invite the neighbors or another family


to your game night and encourage some friendly competition. You could split into family teams, or if the children are old enough, play parents versus the kids.


MAKE IT THEMED To ignite some excitement, give a


theme to each game night. You could make it a slumber party and have every- one dress in PJs and pop some popcorn. Or have an island-inspired night with bathing suits, beach towels and pineapple or coconut snacks.


TURN OFF THE LIGHTS Give your game night an old-fash- ioned feel and turn off all the lights. Start


a fire, roast some marshmallows and roll the dice by candlelight. This will not only set the scene, but your electric bill will thank you, too!


CHANGE THE SCENE Instead of having game night in the


den, take the night outside to the porch or backyard. You could even go to a nearby park and picnic along with your game.


PLAY THE PART Spice up the night by putting on a


costume that corresponds with the game. If you’re playing Life, have each family member dress as their career: doctor, ath- lete, musician, etc.


MAKE GAME-INSPIRED TREATS Playing Monopoly? Make dice-cookies


or classic Boardwalk dishes. Playing Go Fish? Make Go Fish gold fish tomato soup.


CHANGE THE LANGUAGE If you’re playing a numbers-based


game, make a new rule that you can only say numbers in Spanish or another lan- guage of your choice. This will not only make game night educational, but also add a layer of challenge.


INVENT YOUR OWN GAME Ditch the traditional board games and


make up your own! Write down the rules to your new game and introduce it to your friends and family.
