Campaign to defend education

Vote yes to protect teachers

The NUT and NASUWT have signed a historic agreement to campaign together to protect teachers and defend education against the Government’s attacks on the profession. The NUT is balloting for action to defend pay and conditions. Please vote YES to both questions and return your ballot paper immediately.

Why are we balloting members?

The NUT pensions ballot remains live and we intend to take action on pensions jointly with the NASUWT. Our new ballot will also enable us to take action alongside NASUWT colleagues to protect teachers’ pay and working conditions.

This means challenging excessive workload and the unnecessary and burdensome accountability systems that generate it. We would act in defence of national pay and conditions and against the pay freeze.

The two unions represent over 85 per cent of teachers. Acting together is the best way to put pressure on the Government.

Who is being balloted?

All members in maintained schools, academies and sixth form colleges in England and Wales are being balloted. Eligible members should have received their ballot papers by 27 June.

What are we being asked?

The ballot asks two questions – whether you are prepared to take discontinuous strike action, and whether you are prepared to take part in industrial action short of a strike. The aim, of course, is to persuade the Secretary of State for Education to protect pay and working conditions.
