Cargofast plans new location BrazilReview
Rogerio Fadigas, freight director of São Paulo-based freight forwarder Cargo- fast, reveals: “This year has started very well – we are very busy.” Having enjoyed 17 percent growth in its vol- umes over the course of 2011, he is seeing a similar trend this year. The strength of the Brazilian econ-
omy has been a major driver in the company’s expansion, Fadigas says. There has been significant growth in imports from Asia, he noted, particu- larly from China, India and Thailand. Entirely new customers have been
added to the company’s customer list, many of them Brazilian importers benefiting from the strong national currency. Thanks to the growth in its business, Cargo-
fast has plans to expand. It has, for example, hopes of adding an office in the south of Brazil, where it only recently launched a joint venture.
There are challenges to face, of course. The
government may introduce measures to slow the nation’s imports, afraid of the damage being done to Brazilian industry, while the upcoming World Cup and Olympic Games to be held in Brazil have created pressures on its logistics industry, Fadigas noted.
DC Logistics enjoys steady expansion in 2012
Last year was a good one for freight forwarder DC Logis- tics Brasil, which enjoyed a 21 percent increase in its air cargo volumes and a 36 per- cent improvement in ocean volumes. The agent has invested
strongly, says managing director Ivo Mafra, in new ser- vices in the areas of integrated logistics and pro- ject cargo. Moreover, DC Logistics Brasil has strength- ened its staff complement by about 25 percent, adding “selected professionals in dif- ferent markets”. It has also in recent months opened two
new offices, expanding its presence in Brazil to seven different locations: Itajaí, Curitiba, São Paulo, Porto Alegre, Manaus, Campinas and Viória. Moreover: “With the continuous work done
last year, we’re seeing better results and more demand for our services in 2012. Our aim is to surpass our growth of 2010 and 2011. “We have constantly sought new ways to
acquire new customers. But we have main- tained the quality of our services and we offer the best possible logistics solution,” he added.
Mafra’s optimism is not
dampened by the current state of the global air freight market. “As a medium to large size freight forwarder, DC Logistics Brasil has a huge mar- ket in which to grow in Brazil. “Such expansion is still pos-
sible (despite) the current global air cargo situation,” he declared. Looking forward to the FIFA
Mafra: “we’re seeing better results and more demand for our services”
World Cup in 2014 and the Olympic Games in 2016, Mafra outlined: “With world atten- tion focused on Brazil, the responsibility of our country to provide an organised event to
all the people involved will be huge and will affect all types of service. “Regarding logistics services, agility in
import and export procedures at airports and ports must improve! More than ever, quality of service, complete and rapid information flows, and strong relationships between all those involved – Customs, carriers, terminals and so on –will be necessary. “Such needs match with the actions taken
by DC Logistics Brasil and with what our com- pany is already providing to its clients,” he concluded.
TACA to launch Brasilia - Bogotá connection
Latin American carrier TACA Airlines is to begin operating flights to Brasilia from Bogotá, meeting – it said – the needs of the Brazilian market and, in particular, the country’s mid- western region for a link to Colombia. TACA will serve the link to
the Colombian capital four times a week using A319 equipment with a limited amount of bellyhold cargo space available. TACA has an alliance with
fellow South American carrier Avianca through a holding company – AviancaTaca Holding – and together they provide scheduled flights to a total of more than 100 destinations across
the two American continents and to Europe. Primary hubs are located at Bogotá, Lima in
Peru, San José in Costa Rica and San Salvador in El Salvador.
