There’s a lot going on this term. As well as being the traditional summer fair season for almost all PTAs, Jubilee and Olympic celebrations have given PTAs extra fundraising and social opportunities. With so much to do and so much to think about, PTA-UK gives you a quick insight into things to consider this term.
1 BE INSPIRED
Check out PTA-UK’s Gold Star Award winners, who will be announced on 13 June. Each year PTA-UK receives 100’s of entries that we have to whittle down to a lucky, inspirational few. You can view these award winning projects online and pick up some new ideas.
2 CAST YOUR VOTE
We also need you to select the PTA Volunteer of the Year for 2012. When the email asking you to vote drops into your inbox, don’t delete it, vote, vote, vote!
3 RETURN YOUR SUPERMARKET VOUCHERS
If your school community has been collecting vouchers, the dates to submit these with your order is approaching. The response date for Sainsbury’s Active Kids is 5th June and for Tesco’s it’s 6th July.
4 DADS ALLOWED
Fathers’ Story Week kicks off on 11 June. Talk to the school about how your PTA can get involved and use this opportunity to get more Dads engaged with the PTA and the school. Take a look at the feature on page 17; see how one Dad’s determination got more Dads doing just that.
5 FAMILY FUN DAY
If you’re looking for a different type of summer celebration, then why not recognise family life by doing something to mark the United Nations International Day of Families on 15 May? Visit www.pta.org.uk for details.
6 GET INVOLVED
If your school is having an open day/ evening for new parents and their children joining the school in September, then make sure your PTA is involved. Speak to the Head teacher about the support you can offer and ask for the chance to promote the PTA and recruit new volunteers.
7 MOVING ON
If you know you are going to lose some of your PTA Committee members at next term’s AGM, then start thinking about their replacements. Bring new life on board now by asking parents to support your summer term events. Invite them along to the planning meetings so they can get a feel for what’s involved. We’ve more information on page 16.
8 TALKING OF THE AGM
If your annual general meeting is planned for September, remember to give the requisite notice (check your constitution) before you break up for the summer holidays.
9 ROYALLY CELEBRATE
PTA-UK is supporting the Big Jubilee Lunch on 3 June. There’s still time to get involved. Take a look at the article on page 6 or visit www.thebiglunch.com
10 PUT YOUR FEET UP
Read the remainder of our summer term PTA Magazine! Take a look at the advertisers too; you’ll be able to click through to their websites to see how they can support your PTA.
So, this term is shaping up to be a truly memorable one. Whatever your PTA is doing, good luck, enjoy and remember to share your success with PTA-UK via Facebook, Twitter and our online forum at www.pta.org.uk
