SHANE O’NEILL

Being called Nugget...was cool when I was like thirteen. I’m a little older now, but I still don’t care. Probably half my friends have met me as Nugget. I would prefer for people to use my real name, but it really doesn’t matter.

The best Skate Mental graphic... is Alien Vs. Predator. It’s funny because a lot of people always tell me, “I can’t believe Brad [Staba] made that.” It was out before things happened to Michael [Jackson], but I know he re- released it or whatever. It’s gnarly for sure.

The inside of Brad Staba’s brain... is super crazy and cool. He’s very creative and cares a lot about what he does. He doesn’t care to the point of making things perfect, he just cares about making things funny. He does whatever he wants. I’m good friends with him and he’s a cool dude.

The biggest bummer...is hurting myself. Sore ankles and injuries in general are terrible. There’s nothing worse. You want to go skating, but you can’t and you can’t do anything else either.

FOURSTAR OG Pirate T-Shirt 63-22677 $21.99

When frustration levels are high... I just try to calm down and clear my head. That’s easier said than done, though. Getting frustrated with skating usually happens when it’s super hot. You don’t have control over how much energy you’re losing. The sun takes it out of you.

NIKE SB Dunk Low Pro 04292063 $84.99

SKATE MENTAL VHS Deck 65-05076 8 x 31.63 $49.99

Competing in Street League... is something you’d think would make you more nervous because it’s such a big contest, but for me it’s the other way around. There’s only a few skaters skating, you have your turn and you get to rest. I would prefer to skate in that than any other contest.

When I’m trying to get psyched I usually listen to...a lot of hip-hop and rap. I’ve been listening to a lot of Rick Ross lately and I like Lil’ Wayne. I listen to a whole variety of different stuff. No genre or preference. I like everything.
