The Hall of Fame

Nationwide has X-FactorT More fun and frolics from our pals at Nationwide after they invited Mortgage Introducer editorial director Nia Williams to the X-Factor Live Tour at London’s 02 Arena. “It was amazing,” Williams piped up to the

HoF later. “I’m a huge fan of X-Factor – espe- cially Harry Styles from One Direction, he’s such a player. Alas he was from the year before so I was stuck with watching Misha B; Janet Devlin; Marcus Collins; Johnny Robinson; Craig Colton; The Risk; Kitty Brucknell; Amelia Lily and of course winners Little Mix. I do have a soft spot for Johnny mind so it wasn’t all that bad.”

Swimming success Rebecca Addlington, Keri-Anne

Payne and

Hannah Miley (pictured middle) were top among the GB swimming team encountered by Mort- gage Introducer editorial director Nia Williams, MI publisher Robyn Hall and broker Jon Burridge while dining out at Westfi eld, Stratford. “It was great,” Burridge told the HoF. “Eat- ing under the shadow of the Olympic Stadium is rather impressive – especially when it lights up at night. And to bump into the GB swimming team, well that was just quite something else.”

Run Robyn run Mortgage Introducer publisher Robyn Hall along with MI designer Chris Gardner raised a whop- ping £1,631 for the Stroke Association last month running an epic 5k in London’s Regent’s Park. Hall, more renowned for his wayward life- style than fi tness regime, fi nished the race in 30 minutes 07 seconds. Gardner meanwhile pipped the publisher to the post in a rather more im- pressive 29 minutes 30 seconds. A big thank you then to John Malone; Scott Fynn; Guy Batchelor; Harpal Singh; Eddie Goldsmith; Frank Eve; Mike Fitzgerald; Fahim Antoniades; Montello Finance; Kevin Duffy; Alison Beech; Anna Rud- dock; Dragonfl y Property Finance; Bill Dudgeon; Jason Berry; Phil Whitehouse; David Tweedy; Matt Cottle; Duncan Kreeger; and a whole host of industry names and others for spur- ring Hall and Gardner on.

Drummond up business

To London’s Trafalgar Square and Drummonds Private Bank cour-

tesy of those nice folk at Perception Finance. The London-based broker hosted an informal networking event at the London private

bank. Founded in 1717 by goldsmith Andrew Drummond it remained family owned until 1924 when it was taken over by the Royal Bank of Scotland. The bank has previously held accounts for a variety of distin-

guished figures including HM King George III and other members of the royal family including the Queen Mother. Other famous clients included Alexander Pope, Benja- min Disraeli and Thomas Gainsborough.

And now, er, MI publisher Robyn Hall. You wouldn’t Adam & Eve it

Our own illustrious Members of Parliament hit the red carpet to make it into the Hall of Fame this month for questioning what was the point of the Mortgage Meerkat Review. Our representatives in the corridors of Whitehall had the gall to ask our hawkish regulator what the point of the MMR was if there were already good rules in place that weren’t enforced. Labour MP Pat McFAdden said: “You said the rules in the run up to the boom were being ignored but there were perfectly sensible rules in place. What the point of all this is if we had good rules already? Why aren’t those just enforced?” Before diving straight back in his burrow Martin Wheatley, managing director of the conduct business unit at the FSA, told MPs that Mortgage Conduct of Business principles “should have meant that the excesses around the period of 2007 shouldn’t have happened”. He said: “It’s difficult for me to comment on the extent to which we fell down on the job. The fact is the rules in the past which did exist weren’t followed so we’re coming forward with some clearer rules that will protect consumers better in the future.”

Pat McFadden, the HoF salutes you.
