1. Measure the depth of the carpet and pad using a straightened paper clip.
2. Sink the tip of the paper clip into the carpet and pad until it touches the floor (your finger and thumb should touch the top of the carpet).
3. Measure the length from the tip of the paper clip to your fingers.
