NEW MODELS AWARDED ECO CERTIFICATE ENVIRONMENT

Independent technical inspection organisation TÜV Nord has awarded the all-new Picanto, Rio and Optima models environmental certifi cates in recognition of their strong eco-credentials. Low emissions, advanced manufacturing processes, including choice of materials, engine exhaust emissions and recycling, contributed to the

accreditation. Kia’s manufacturing facility in Zilina, Slovakia was certifi ed an ‘environmentally friendly’ facility in 2008, and its Sportage and Venga models have been awarded certifi cates. SPORTAGE OUTRUNS TIGUAN

The Kia Sportage has beaten Volkswagen’s Tiguan in a comparison test of the 4x4 crossovers by Auto Express magazine. The Sportage 2.0 CRDi KX-3 AWD was declared the winner in a head-to-head challenge against the VW Tiguan 2.0 TDI 140 SE 4Motion. The cars were rated on styling,

VENGA SHIFTS TO SLOVAKIA

Kia’s award-winning Venga is now being produced at its European factory in Zilina, Slovakia, alongside the cee’d and Sportage models. Having won the iF product design award and Red Dot Award for product design, Kia has invested heavily in the Zilina plant to accommodate production of the Venga in 2012.

We think the Kia makes the VW look incredibly conservative. Its 7 year warranty and sporty looks take many of the plaudits, but the Kia is a car with hidden talents. Not only is it big, practical and good to drive, but it promises to hold its value even more effectively than the VW. “While lower-specifi cation models arguably offer even

more value, the KX-3 represents a lot of car for the cash. The Tiguan is good; the Kia is even better.”
