Mayflower at Bigsweir Bridge Acrylic on canvas 20 x 20 cm

Anthony M Skates

Anthony’s work is driven by his response to the landscape and natural forms of the Wye Valley. He is particularly interested in the way in which time transforms the landscape and in how individual landmarks and structures sit within the landscape. The painting illustrated in the catalogue, which depicts a Hawthorn Tree near Bigsweir Bridge on the lower Wye is a prime example of this as the tree changes dramatically over time due to the impact of its sudden flowering whilst it stands isolated within the context of a river meadow.
