MOT NOW REQUIRES MIL LAMP CHECK
■ As of the 1st January 2012 the MoT Test will incorporate a Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) check. This will call for the examiner to visually check that warnings lights for ESP, SRS, ABS and TPMS are not permanently illuminated. This will come into eff ect as an advisory item only until March 31st. From April 1st onwards, vehicles will fail an MOT if these lights are illuminated. Warnings lights or MIL that are to be noted if illuminated include ESP; Electronic Stability Programme, SRS; Safety Restraint System, ABS; Anti-Locking Brake System, and TPMS; Tyre Pressure Monitoring System.

IMI calls on motor industry to invest in training
■ Over half the workforce in the retail motor industry is employed by a small/medium business yet according to the Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI), 32% of micro-businesses carried out no staff training at all last year. With 1545 SMEs closing in the same period the IMI is calling on employers to take action and understand that investing in skills is good for business and has a positive eff ect on the bottom line.
