Willie called all of it a heap of crap. Because, all things considered, it still left that 1%. And he personally believes, beyond a doubt, that there is something most peculiar in Loch Ness. He knows several people who have seen something. People who wouldn’t talk to the press or outsiders like us. But he could tell us about one person in particular who had an amazing story – his father Ian.
We had a feeling Willie had told this particular story a few times before. But it didn’t matter because it was incredible.
On June 5, 1965, Ian was fi shing with a friend on the southern shore of the loch.
“
It was 10 pm but still very bright outside. He was wading in the water, about 10 feet from the shore. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw an object fl oating in the water by Urquhart Castle.
Ian thought the black object looked like a diesel tanker that had overturned in the water. He said that it appeared as though the tank had come up and was fl oating in the water with the wind. He noted ‘the bulk end’ was higher than the other end.
Though still concentrating on his fi shing, Willie said his father noticed that the bulk end was rotating. At fi rst, it was on the left. But the next time he looked up, it was on
the right. It was still coming with the wind, and eventually made its way to where the Clansman Hotel is now. Then it turned and went against the wind.
But this time, Ian became really interested in the object, and he attracted the attention of his friend, along with two more people in a caravan on the shore. The four of them watched the object until it very quickly disappeared.

Willie says the total time of his father’s sighting was approximately 50 minutes, nearly one hour. To this day, it remains the longest sighting on record.
