Principios básicos del diseño de canales de colada y alimentacion de las piezas fundidas

(Basic Principles of Gating & Risering, Spanish version)

In 2008, AFS published the second edition of the book, Basic Principles of Gating & Risering. This book was based on the popular fi rst edition used by the Cast Metals Institute for its classes. The AFS Cast Iron Division—5G Committee, Gating and Risering worked to update the fi rst edition (published in 1973) to present a more modern approach to the principles outlined in the fi rst. In late 2009, AFS undertook translating the book into Spanish in order to broaden distribution of this publication to individuals and companies in Spanish-speaking countries around the world.

This second edition of the Basic Principles of Gating & Risering was a major revision of the original text. It was designed for intermediate and advanced students in both basic and applied science of foundry practice. It focuses on those aspects of the scientifi c element with regard to metal fl ow and solidifi cation. It emphasizes principles and use rather than theory and offers functional explanations rather than formal rules.

Technology for Magnesium Castings: Design, Products & Applications

The publication of this book is very timely in view of the important role magnesium contributes to the transportation industry and other industrial applications using the latest casting and processing technologies. Being a structural material with low density and a very high strength-to-weight ratio, magnesium can reduce vehicle weight and in turn reduce greenhouse gas emissions and increase fuel economy. In Technology for Magnesium Castings, valuable information is provided on melt control, process control, casting and solidifi cation, heat treatment, materials selection and various casting processes such as sand, permanent mold, high pressure die, lost foam, ablation and semi-solid casting. This publication will be of great interest to many individuals involved in the metalcasting industry, especially the casting designers and process engineers. It will also be an invaluable tool for students of metallurgy, materials science and metalcasting
