Equality at heart of young NUT
Young teachers from all over South Wales attended the fifth annual South Wales young teachers’ conference in Swansea on 14 and 15 October.
The theme was ‘equalities’ and Show Racism the Red Card, Stonewall Cymru and Amnesty International gave presentations on classroom resources they had produced. The conference also discussed Moving into Management, presented by NUT Executive member Beth Davies, and Money Matters, covering budgeting and a guide to financial products.
The North Wales young teachers’ conference is in Llandudno on 18 and 19 November. Call Lisa Tavener on 029 2049 1818 for more details.
“ The conference was excellent – enjoyable and informative. Everything we discussed was relevant and can be taken back to school and used. I’ll definitely go again next year.” Michael Williams, Whitchurch High School
Welcome to the NUT!
NUT Cymru visited all the Welsh universities this term to recruit new student teachers to the Union. The pensions campaign was a popular topic of discussion. Wales Secretary David Evans handed out NUT student packs. He’s pictured with new members Carly Evans and Ffion Davies, from Swansea Metropolitan University. Student membership is free, and newly qualified teachers can get four terms’ full membership for just £1. Find out more at www.teachers.org.uk/joinus
