WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS: Jordan Burroughs captured a gold medal in his first World Championships to cap a strong tournament for the U.S. freestyle team. The U.S. placed third, bouncing back from a 22nd-place finish in 2010.


TRIPLE CROWN WINNERS: Minnesota’s Gannon Volk and Illinois’ Nkosi Moody earned USA Wrestling Triple Crowns after winning Greco-Roman and freestyle titles during the Junior and Cadet Nationals in July in Fargo, N.D.


NFL STAR VISITS OTC: Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Roddy White, a two- time state wrestling champion, brought a group of wrestlers from his high school in South Carolina to the U.S. Olympic Training Center in July.


STARTING OVER: Mike Denney led Nebraska-Omaha to seven NCAA Division II titles, but his program was dropped this past spring after UNO had won its third straight title. Now he’s starting over at Maryville (Mo.) University.
