Process Equipment Update
Dry vacuum pump sets new standard for high reliability
E
dwards, a leader in vacuum and abatement technologies, has launched a new range of dry pumps which delivers exceptional vacuum performance in harsh chemical, petrochemical and pharmaceutical processes.
The easy-
to-use CXS pumps feature cutting-edge screw technology, have excellent reliability, are simple to install, environmentally friendly and give improved liquid and solids handling. As a result, they are economic to run and users can optimise their vacuum processes and minimise overall cost of ownership.
They have low energy usage and utility costs, deep and flexible vacuum down to 10-3
mbar, no contamination of the process stream or cooling water and no effluent generation.
They are robust and reliable even in harsh pumping environments and have the ability to pump up to one litre of liquid per minute continuously and up to 25 litre slugs without stopping.
The pumps are independently
certified for use in hazardous environments to ensure safe pumping of
flammable gases. They also pump corrosive gases without corroding. The CXS
pump mechanisms are smooth and
quiet running, with noise levels as low as 64 dB(A). In addition, the pumps have long service intervals of up to five years and require minimal maintenance. ■

Hot air blower hot air
A
blower is a combination
of an air heater and a blower. There are now two types, the
Hotwind Premium and the Hotwind System. In addition to changes in appearance to give an appropriate industrial design, the technical possibilities have also been extended. Both models are fitted with two potentiometers for infinitely variable adjustment of the volume of air and temperature. The maximum air outlet temperature reaches 800°C and the volume of air reaches an incredible 900 l/min. A brushless fan motor provides even more safety in continuous running in industrial applications. On the top model, the Hotwind System, both the volume of air and the heating power can, on the one hand, be regulated internally. On the other hand there is a system interface for integration in a closed control system. This also has an alarm contact. ■

Hermetic sealed – a clean solution for hazardous, toxic or crystallising media
E
nvironmental protection and safety are now some of the most important key issues of system operators. For this reason, more and more money is being invested in process safety, while even components such as sealing systems must be taken into account in order to meet the high demands. Magnetic
couplings, which
completely do away with moving seal parts, offer comprehensive safety in this regard.
The product area of the pump can be completely separated from its surroundings through a containment shell. In this manner, hazardous, toxic or odorous and very pure or sensitive media are hermetically isolated from the environment.

The torque is transferred by high- performance samarium-cobalt permanent magnets contact-free from the motor shaft, which is located outside of the containment shell, to the pump shaft, which is located within the containment shell. Thanks to
this structure, the magnetic coupling is virtually maintenance-free
and the system is thus highly reliable. Magnetic couplings guarantee the safe use of media without exposing them to the atmosphere, thereby ruling out any reaction with the surroundings. ■

Positive displacement blowers/exhausters
A
ir and gas handling solutions based on years of ‘hands-on’ practical experience are now being offered in
an extensive range of positive displacement Roots blowers/exhausters which have been designed and manufactured to handle variable pressures with constant volumes, at pressures from 69 to 1379mbar), flows from 3.4 to 67 960m³/hr and vacuums up to 948mbar. Dresser Roots Centrifugal compressors come in three primary lines: Integral Gear, Overhung Impeller with Bearing Housing and Horizontally Split Multi-stage. All can be tailored to provide efficient air or gas handling. The compressor range supports constant pressures and variable volumes at pressures to 3447mbar and capacities from 6796 to 509 703m³/hr. ■
