When I was a kid, the most exciting of all things each fall, more than the leaves changing color, was the arrival of the Sears Christmas Wish Book catalog.
Although I still have my Fisher Price Adventure People and their orange Jeep, tent, 11-inch plastic canoe and paddles, these days I’m wishing for bigger tents, real canoes and longer paddles (a new Jeep would be sweet too).
Instead of waiting to see the coolest new toys in a department store catalog, my staff team received exclusive first-look photographs and product descriptions uploaded to the Rapid Media website. That’s like having an insider elf at the North Pole. Then after many, “Did you see this?” and, “I want one of those” around the office, we quickly bundled up the 157 paddlesports products into this guide and the Outdoor Retailer Paddle Zone’s on-site New Product Preview displays.
Sears knows that the Wish Book has to go to as many households as possible for children everywhere to want the toys. Sending it to only a few children would be cruel and not so good for business. Do you see where I’m going with this?
In the fall, once the leaves begin to change color and retailers are finishing up their 2011 paddling season, this New Product Preview will be sent to paddlers everywhere. You’ll find the NPP in our Rapid, Adventure Kayak, Canoeroots and Kayak Angler magazine iPad apps, on the Internet and emailed to our 85,000 online readers. And then, big-kid paddlers everywhere will begin making their wish lists.
