so it certainly feels like I have progressed, even if I am only on the second rung of the ladder. My immediate plans are to take the last three of the 15 exams that I have to take for ACA training, and then to complete the required hours to get fully qualifi ed. In fi ve years I will hopefully have been abroad (something that PwC offers in abundance) for a couple of years and will be back making my next big decision about my career!
Most challenging aspect of the job: The exams that we have to take. They are very diffi cult, don’t let anyone tell you otherwise!

Job description: I work with employers who have employees all over the world to ensure individuals complete their relevant tax obligations, and to minimise client tax liabilities where possible. The role also includes a signifi cant level of consulting advice regarding the most effi cient way to structure global assignments.
Specialist training: Lots of on the job training (bi-weekly lunchtime training sessions) and annual training courses, AAT qualifi cation.
Most enjoyable aspect of job: Dealing with people. I am lucky enough to work closely with a large number of clients, and the opportunity to become their trusted advisor on expatriate tax matters is a great reward. Working as part of a young and energetic team, who are all very good at what they do also makes it very easy to come to work each day.
Most challenging aspect of job: During the busy period, deadlines are always the most challenging part of the job. Fortunately, most of the work that we do is not time critical, but it’s important to meet client expectations when providing them with advice.
Advice to other grads: Make sure you know why you want to apply! It’s really important that you take an interest in the world of business, what challenges our

Most enjoyable aspect of job It’s very rewarding to be in a role where my actions can have a huge impact on the company’s performance. Discovering the various elements that go towards pricing a risk is extremely interesting, plus the regular contact with senior management makes you feel included and a vital part of the LV= family.
Advice to other grads Forget the stereotype that accounting and auditing is a boring industry. I have very rarely found myself bored during work or with the work that I have been assigned. Take this attitude to your interviews and you will fi nd that you’ll have a lot more in common with the interviewers than you thought – don’t forget that this is a client-facing industry.
Financial services and the fi nance function: Clearing the confusion When we think of careers in fi nance, notions of banks, pension funds, payroll and accountants all come fl ooding to mind. However, this is an area of great confusion as some of these fall under the fi nancial services industry and others fall under the category of fi nance function.
