K-Line

The K-Line is a very low-speed single-wire serial communication system used on many motor vehicles. It is commonly used for the diagnostic connections between ECMs on the vehicle and diagnostic equipment. The K-Line is very different to a CAN Bus network. Using PicoScope 6 Automotive you can verify that data is being continuously exchanged along the K-Line, and check that the peak-to-peak voltage levels are correct.

VAG PD Injectors

VAG PD injectors are electromechanical units located inside the cylinder head. Unlike common-rail injectors the high fuel pressure is generated by an additional rocker-arm running from the camshaft and acting directly on the injectors to compress the fuel. This action generates between 1,800 and 2,050 bar of pressure. Using PicoScope 6 Automotive we can see the injector current, live circuit, and earth circuit.

Digital MAF Frequency

Some modern MAF sensors contain digital electronics. Whilst you can see the digital output changing frequency with airflow, it is not easy to interpret the signal using a conventional oscilloscope. Fortunately, PicoScope 6 Automotive has an option to measure frequency against time in the software, allowing us to look at the very same signal as the ECU.
