Thomson Reuters Continues Acquisitions Thomson Reuters has acquired US-based analyst

firm Lanworth, a specialist in agriculture, forestry and renewable energy, to continue the expansion of its specialist commodities services on Thomson Reuters Eikon. The acquisition comes hot on the heels of the Company’s acquisition of leading precious and industrial metals markets research and analysis firm GFMS (formerly known as Gold Fields Mineral Services), and last year’s acquisition of Point Carbon, the global power, gas and carbon markets specialist. Rising global demand for food, feed, and fuel has led to

the rapid expansion of agricultural and soft commodities markets. The Lanworth acquisition is deigned to enable Thomson Reuters to offer cutting-edge research, analysis, and even greater insight to clients in this market via its flagship desktop solution Eikon. Clients will be able to benefit from direct access to Lanworth’s unique approach to agricultural forecasting which has used infrared satellite imagery combined with fundamental information to provide highly accurate early-season forecasts in the US and South America over the past four years. “The acquisition of Lanworth continues the strategy

for our commodities business. Our customers will benefit from specialist services in energy, metals and agriculture markets through one desktop solution: Thomson Reuters Eikon,” said Shaun Sibley, Global Head of Commodities, Thomson Reuters. “Lanworth leads the game in agriculture. Its in-depth and accurate analysis of crop production and renewable energy sources is what customers rely on for their trading and hedging decisions. And its forecasting brings something unique that we can expand globally to provide accurate forecasts around the world. This is of critical importance considering the global landscape for what is happening in agriculture markets.” Nick Kouchoukos, President of Lanworth, will remain

with the business and continue to head up his Chicago- based team. He will now report to Kris Carlson, Global

Head of Agriculture at Thomson Reuters, as Global Head of Agricultural and Forestry Research. “Thomson Reuters Eikon is about delivering the

next generation customer experience and some of the innovative things we are doing around geo-mapping fit well with this vision for delivering completely intuitive and sophisticated decision tools to the agriculture market globally,” said Kouchoukos. At a time when many metals markets are experiencing

all time highs, the GFMS acquisition is designed to enable Thomson Reuters to offer powerful forecast analytics and rich fundamentals content from GFMS alongside its metals news and pricing service on Eikon. Both Philip Klapwijk, Chairman of GFMS, and CEO

Paul Walker, will remain with the business and take up new roles as Global Head of Metals Analytics and Global Head of Precious Metals respectively, reporting to Mitchel Ingham-Barrow, Thomson Reuters Global Head of Metals. “This is an exciting time for GFMS as we become part

of the large-scale and dynamic company, helping us to provide an even sharper focus on the global metals markets,” commented Klapwijk. “We see the Eikon desktop as one of the most innovative tools for metals professionals and we look forward to enhancing this proposition even further with the addition of our research and analysis.” “The strategy for our commodities business has been

to deliver best-of-breed, specialist services and unique content to energy, metals and agriculture professionals via our next generation desktop Thomson Reuters Eikon,” says Sibley. “These investments coupled with our acquisition of Point Carbon last year is helping us deepen those propositions by bringing in specialist talent to our team which delivers invaluable insight, information and tools to our clients.”

Terms of both the Lanworth and GFMS acquisitions were not disclosed.
