P13
Continued from p12
Class 4 played music from West End showstopper The Lion King. The teacher led the dancing, while learners kept their eyes peeled for lions, tigers and monkeys hiding around the room.
One FE class created a visit to the ‘Tiger Club’, which involved glamorous dressing up and energetic Charleston dancing. Another explored Japanese Kodo drums.
As well as giving the opportunity to put on a show, carousel days have become a way to include friends and family in school life. To ensure that each student is fully involved, they are accompanied by an adult who supports them throughout the day. Parents, volunteers and siblings also help.
Carousel days have developed over time. For example, we found that moving quickly from one activity to another could be confusing. Each session now ends with some calm reflection, listening to Pachelbel’s Canon. The music has also become a reference point, alerting learners to the end of an activity.
