BURGESS
The name of Philippe Briand is legendary among yacht designers and owners, whether you speak to the racing elite or aficionados of luxury cruising. The Briand signature ensures performance and longevity. It is a seal of provenance and quality that guarantees the re-sale value of these superb yachts.
Burgess has worked closely with the studio of Philippe Briand over the course of several years. Take Galileo G, for example, the new ice-class 55m Perini Navi. Our sales broker Henry Craven- Smith and our technical consultant Sean Bianchi worked closely with Philippe Briand in the build project, from initially contracting the project to overseeing construction, representing the owner’s interests with both the naval architect and the shipyard.
Designed for long distance cruising and marine exploration in absolute comfort, Galileo G is the latest in an impressive line of motor yachts from the Briand pen, but this designer’s first passion was for sailing yachts. Philippe Briand is
an accomplished racer and helmsman, with several world championship wins to his name in the 1980’s. A prodigy in the design world, he created his first sailing yacht when he was only 16 years old. He combined this talent with his desire to win and went on to design 8 America’s Cup yachts.
Briand’s spectacular 220ft Vertigo is his largest sailing yacht to date, and reflects a design philosophy that is being applied again to two new projects, a 170ft sloop and 174ft ketch, which will be marketed by Burgess. The Burgess brokerage team has a well-established working relationship with Philippe Briand and are delighted to be representing the sale of future vessels from his studio.
Why Briand?
The Briand trademark is innovation, particularly in the design of streamlined, fast hulls. In 2003, his sailing yacht Mari-Cha IV was the fastest monohull in the world when she broke the trans- Atlantic world record. Most importantly, super-seaworthiness is the essence of his naval architecture, and his designs are in evidence today in exclusive marinas and prestigious regattas all over the world. Burgess is proud to work alongside the professional and dedicated team at Briand Design.
