Group at Chevron, and Paul Henderson, deputy chief of staff/public safety in the mayor’s office, were honored for their efforts to increase awareness of diversity in the Bay Area legal community.


The Barristers Club Diversity Committee and Bay Area Lawyers for Individual Freedom (BALIF) recognized Sterling Johnson with the inaugural 2011 Diverse Voices Scholarship. Johnson, a law student at UC Hastings Col- lege of the Law, was awarded the scholarship for his dem- onstrated commitment to public service.


VOLUNTEERS RAISE $12,000 AT VLSP’S BIKE/ WALK-A-THON


TECHNOLOGY TUESDAYS: FREE MONTHLY DISCUSSIONS FOR BASF MEMBERS


More than ninety BASF mem- bers attended the first Tech Tues- day program, held in mid-July, and twenty plus watched over a live webcast. The topic was iOS Apps for Lawyers and the speaker was Bryan Cave attorney Robert Esposito.


Team Morgan Lewis


The Fourth Annual Volunteer Legal Services Program (VLSP) Bike-a-Thon/Walk-a-Thon took place on Sun- day, June 12, at Crissy Field. The successful event raised more than $12,000 with Team Morgan Lewis getting the nod for the most money raised. Barristers Club President Matt Gluck of Shartsis Friese from Barristers Bike for VLSP; Jennifer Calvert from Team Morgan Lewis; and Douglas Sullivan from Team Crowell & Moring were the top three individual fundraisers.


Food donations were generously provided by Starbucks, ClifBar, Whole Foods, and Trader Joe’s.


The money raised will support VLSP’s work to advance equal justice and promote stability for low-income San Franciscans and nonprofit organizations.

Esposito recommended top applications in the following areas: file management, document viewers, note taking, legal research, task management, and travel. Tech Tuesdays, a free roundtable discussion series for BASF members that covers the latest technology issues and cutting-edge topics relevant to lawyers, was estab- lished in July 2011 as a way to provide seminars on cut- ting-edge technology on a monthly basis.


For those members that register but can’t make it in person, a live stream of the event is offered.
