Sound Off Ryan’s Plan — Too bold?

What is it with Republicans? Why do they always walk into traps set by the Democrats? They should have forced the president to present a budget plan (“Ryan’s Bold Plan,” August). Let him show some leadership for a change — and take the heat. Desmond Beauvais Little Rock, Ark.

Bravo to Rep. Paul Ryan — the only politician who was brave enough to call the president’s bluff by produc- ing a budget plan that may not be perfect, but at least is a starting point for a sensible discussion. Rick Tindley Hartford, Conn.

Spending is out of control and threat- ens the very future of this great nation. Rep. Ryan is right to resist demands by

Newsmax at White House I would like to thank you for the article “Newsmax Joins President Obama for White House Summit,” in the August issue. Let’s continue to work together to unite the USA! Diane Townes Keswick, Va.

First Woman President Referring to the July Newsmax cover story on presidential candidate hopeful Michele Bachmann — great interview and analysis. I was unsure of support- ing her for the GOP nomination, but after reading the article, she has my support — 100 percent! Roy Muirhead Plano, Texas

Global Warming

I wonder how many of Newsmax’s readers remember a vice president who claimed that he had invented the Internet (“TV Weathermen Pour Cold Water on Global Warming,” July)? I

side of the political spectrum who would drive us into bankruptcy. Sheila Matthews Portland, Ore.

Rep. Ryan’s plan is too bold and will hurt seniors. While he was right to take the lead with his proposal, our political leadership needs to come together and get this country back on the path to prosperity without hurt- ing those who are most vulnerable. Jasper Highgate San Diego, Calif.

note from your article that 47 percent of people trust Al Gore. That is 47 percent too many.

John W. Breen Hampton, Va.

Appetite for Drugs The Mexican illegal drug trade is fl our- ishing due to the Americans’ appetite for drugs (“A Borderline State of Siege,” June). The demand is so high that the cartels will be suppliers — even at the cost of a stable Mexican government. The root of the problem lies within our own country. John Matejko Pearl City, Hawaii

Justice Delayed Why hasn’t Army Maj. Malik Nidal Hasan, who killed 13 people at Fort Hood, Texas, been brought to trial (“The Digital Revolution Left bin Laden in the Dust,” July)? Vera Jennings Tucson, Ariz.

Truth About Obamacare Bravo to Newsmax for printing the story on Obama’s cousin, Dr. Milton Wolf (“My Medical Oath Forces Me to Oppose Obamacare,” July). And bravo to Dr. Wolf for telling us the story in terms we can identify with and under- stand. Long live this great republic and God Bless America! Charles Jasper Selvey Princeton, W.Va.

Border Needs Double Fence I enjoyed reading Christopher Ruddy’s special commentary “The Great Meltdown” in the July issue. Yes, we need to close the borders — and use a double fence to keep illegals out. Robert Ackert

Keystone Heights, Fla.

Christopher Ruddy is right about the problems but wrong about the solu- tions. What about reducing government back to 2008 levels as well as cutting back to the spending level for that year? And if having an immigration policy on legal immigrants to get the best and brightest is key, then why not have the same policy toward those who are here illegally now? Let the best and brightest stay and work toward citizenship. Don B. Stuart

Pensacola Beach, Fla.

I am an American citizen living in Canada, where I serve as a pastor. I have always been a conservative and a Republican, and am pleased to be a reader of Newsmax. The real culprit and threat to America is the escalating price of oil ($4 per gallon). Thomas Schultz Manitoba, Canada

Obama’s Priorities

It is odd how President Obama goes to gay functions and yet has a diffi cult time allowing Franklin Graham to have prayer day at the White House (“Distant and Connected,” July). Sally Oxendine Hope Mills, N.C.
