Sitting in Dens after a shandy or two with some pals a few weeks after we had left school. We got a sun tan and it was October! It was just one of those magical days when we were all still together, before everyone went their separate ways to study or live in different cities. It marked the end of an era. And Dundee won.

You’re engaged to a Dundee United fan - did you cheer them on in their short European stint?

When my fiancé proposed, I posted on Twitter “Oh dear, I’m marrying an Arab” and someone accused me of being racist. It doesn’t really translate outside of Scotland!

Yes, I did cheer them on. My granddad – I call him Papa – has always instilled in me a pretty magnanimous approach. He’s got fond memories of Dundee too. There’s a picture of him in a football team beside Bobby Cox in his living room and he was a tasty player himself back in the day, though he’d never tell you that.

United are his team but whenever Dundee play he wants them to do well.

His flat is exactly halfway between Dens
