A land where every creature is “king”... the King Penguins, South Georgia

One Departure Only! Our special 18-day Antarctica cruise follows much of the same itinerary as our 13-day Antarctica cruise, but with a difference – it also includes visits to the South Georgia Island and the Falkland Islands. Your cruise begins in the capital of Argentina (and the tango capital), Buenos Aires, then it’s off to Ushuaia to embark L’Austral for the Falkland Islands. Also known by their Spanish name, Islas Malvinas, they have a richly diverse history and a wealth of natural resources. Naturalists introduce you to a variety of wildlife; depending on your landing site, you might hike to a penguin rookery, observe the mighty albatross or get a look at a town or remote farm. Next stop – South Georgia Island, “gateway to the Antarctic” in the words of explorer Sir Ernest Shackleton (who is buried here). South Georgia is rich in polar history and even richer in wildlife, including unique species such as the South Georgia Pintail Duck. The most famous resident is undisputedly the King Penguin; regal in stature, they share the island with the amazing Wandering Albatross (check out their wingspan) and numerous other sea birds. History is ever-present, with tales of the sealing and whaling eras that culminated in the arrival of polar explorers. Cruise to the Antarctic Archipelago, then return to Ushuaia through the Drake Passage and fly back to Buenos Aires. Go to www.tauck.com for day-by-day itinerary.
