UNIVERSE AQUARIUS HEAVEN CIRCUS COMPANY

AVOIDING ALL TEMPTATION to make any obvious jokes about J.Phlip being the only female in San Francisco’s Dirtybird Records (you know, the one with Claude VonStroke, the Martin brothers and the rest), we’re instead going to big up her DJ talent. Having recently met her in Miami, we have a podcast on the way to follow up the superb non-house mix she did for Catz ‘N Dogz Pets label, for whom she also has the release ‘Fever’ coming soon.

While her tastes off the beaten track match heavily with our own – Caribou, Washed Out and Toro Y Moi, yes! – it’s more usual that you’ll find her presiding over the dancefloor. Check her chart and you’ll understand why. Mixing the UK bass of Ramadanman with Ed Davenport’s broken US house and the deep, electronic hip-hop of Aquarius Heaven, the only certainty in a J.Phlip set is that she’ll deliver quality tunes without boundaries.
