GIVING BACK TO THE COMMUNITY and to the larger world family is what Brewster Buck is all about. So when the
producers of “Extreme Makeover Home Edition” asked if his company, Island Floors & Rugs Ltd. in Pawleys Island, South Carolina, would supply the rugs and floor coverings for the Suggs home, he didn’t hesitate. “If somebody asks for something,
you give it to them,” said Brewster, the company’s owner and creative specialist.
REUSE, RECYCLE Before the build, Brewster met with the “Extreme Makeover Home Edition” design team and started selecting the perfect floor coverings to compliment the 3,500-square-foot home. “We provided custom design, manufactured area rugs, binding ser- vices and design expertise for colors and placement of the area rugs,” he explained. During the build, he and his crew made two deliveries to the Suggs
a tour of the home, a T-shirt and, more importantly, the satisfaction of knowing Island Floors & Rugs helped turn the house into a home. “Everyone was pretty excited,” said
Brewster. “Tey (the Suggs family) deserve to have a better situation.”
GIVING BACK Island Floors & Rugs opened in 1979 as Designer Floor Fashion. In 1984, the company changed its named and moved to its current home in Pawleys Island. Hurricane Hugo put a stop to expansion plans in 1989, but, in 1993, construction finally began on a more modern facility that included a larger produc- tion area and showroom. For more than 25 years, the com- pany has served clients all over the country, as well as those in need both close to home and in faraway places, including Haiti. It’s the ultimate form of recycling, Brewster said. “Island Floors has always donated
any reusable products such as cabi- nets, plumbing and appliances, as well as floor coverings, to local fami- lies in need through word of mouth,
a simple principle: “It’s just the right thing to do.” He also designs web- sites for nonprofits and charities. Island Floors and Rugs offers a wide range of products and services, along with exceptional customer service, which Brewster considers to be a key aspect of his company’s success. Te company sells wood flooring, ceramic tile, recycled products, specialty flooring, natural fiber rugs, custom Orientals, design
services and more. Commercial businesses, rental properties, medi- cal facilities and, of course, a large number of homeowners have relied on his expertise to help find exactly what they are looking for. “We offer design services for
people trying to redecorate a home or build a new one,” he added. If “Extreme Makeover Home
Edition” comes calling again, the producers can count on Brewster. “Opportunities come up every day to help others,” he said. “Island Floors has always made every effort to provide for folks in need.”
