New Specialists Join Cancer Network
>>
In 2010, Froedtert & The Medical College of Wisconsin brought cancer specialty care to select community hospitals by forming a Cancer Network in:
• Menomonee Falls: Froedtert Health Community Memorial Hospital’s Cancer Care Center
Candice Johnstone, MD, examines a patient at a follow-up visit.
• West Bend: Froedtert Health St. Joseph’s Hospital’s Alyce and Elmore Kraemer Cancer Care Center
Now, both locations are adding physicians and other services. The Cancer Care Center in Menomonee Falls continues to offer radiation and medical oncology. New in West Bend, Medical College of Wisconsin radiation oncologists Candice Johnstone, MD, and Adam Currey, MD, provide radiation therapy. Medical oncology (chemotherapy and hormone therapy) is also provided in West Bend.
Through the Network, both hospitals offer additional specialties, including gynecologic and urologic oncology, genetic counseling and dedicated nurse practitioners. A cancer dietitian is now available in West Bend. In Menomonee Falls, a psych-oncology nurse specialist helps patients cope with cancer, and a new patient coordinator helps coordinate tests and treatment. Services will continue to expand to make a difficult journey a little easier.
“Cancer is not a “one-size-fits all” illness, so our patients need care that anticipates every aspect,” said Dr. Johnstone, medical director for Radiation Oncology in West Bend. “That’s why it’s important for a patient’s cancer team members to work together. For example, when a patient is referred by a local physician, I keep that doctor informed of the treatment plan. Our patients depend on our team approach to give them the best advantage.”
This collaborative focus gives patients the benefit of a range of expertise. Medical College of Wisconsin specialists at the community hospitals work with local physicians, and advanced care is always available through a connection to Froedtert & The Medical College.
When you’re fighting cancer, it’s comforting to know an entire network of cancer specialists is focused on your needs. For an appointment at any Cancer Network location, call 866-680-0505. For more information, visit
