The Hall of Fame Apprentice shocker: you’re (both) hired Luck of the Irish –
Lord Sugar might well be kicking himself for the second time as two saccharine supremos have swooped on his sixth series reject, Liz Locke (LHS). Candy brothers, Nick and Christian, have hired
Locke as business development director for Omni Capital, their short term finance JV with Mortgage Centre IFA. At just 24 and a Posh Spice lookalike, Locke refers to herself as a “serious businesswoman”. The bridging community might be out of her
comfort zone but with property development expe- rience, big bucks sales on-screen and a spell in in- vestments for UBS and Deutsche Bank, Locke will no doubt step up to the challenge. Meanwhile Spicerhaart has also dipped its wick
in the Apprentice ink, announcing the appoint- ment of “steely” Kristina Grimes (RHS) as business development director for Spicerhaart corporate sales and
MustbeSold.com. A finalist in the third series in 2007, Grimes has joined Spicerhaart af- ter a stint as investment sales director at developer Dandara. The highly competitive mum of one has been known to call herself “ruthless”. You have been warned.
17 March The Mortgage Introducer annual party takes place on March 17th this year and spookily once again the date clashes with St Patrick’s Day. “Talk about the luck of the Irish,” MI publisher Robyn Hall told the HoF. “We seem to have done it again and have organised a party on what will be one of the messiest days of the year.” Indeed, this year’s event, once again sponsored by Assurant Intermediary, is lining up to be a veritable feast of entertainment. The ticket-only event will be taking place at Dover Street Wine Bar in Mayfair, central London, kicking off with a champagne reception on arrival, followed by a chance to mingle and have a few drinks.
Twice in a lifetime for the industry Godfather
They say that you only live once but they never said anything about having two lifetimes and none more so than for industry Godfather John Malone.
The PMS legend steps into the Hall of Fame this month for amassing not one but two lifetime achievement awards at the same event. Malone was shocked to have the honour bestowed upon him again at last month’s Mortgage Strategy awards, having taken the coveted crown in 2003.
Malone has over 40 years experience in the financial services industry encompassing domestic and commercial mortgage lending, insurance and pension sales and marketing, plus estate agency, and latterly creating the PMS business model. No doubt that’s a demonstration to creation and innovation. But twice in a lifetime? That’s surely an achievement in itself. Mr Malone, the HoF salutes you.
Hurst in Bantam cock brawl Charlbury Group director Richard Hurst
shocked the HoF when he divulged a tale worthy of Gerald Durrell last month. In a sullied re-run of “My family and other animals” Hurst told the HoF he had suffered a run-in with a rabid chicken. “I was looking after my sister’s house for a week-
end,” Hurst ‘fessed up. “She has countless dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, a bearded dragon, chick- ens and two teenagers. I let the chickens out in the morning and this Bantam cock, obviously suffering from small cock syndrome, waited until I turned to leave and then delivered a two-footed karate kick to the back of my legs!” Hurst has since sworn revenge on the cock in question. Cock-a-doodle do.
