MARCH FOR THE ALTERNATIVE:

MARCH

Mass demonstration

NASUWT members and their friends and colleagues are being strongly urged to join a mass demonstration on 26 March to demonstrate public opposition to the Coalition Government’s programme of cuts to public services.

The march and rally in Central London is being led by the TUC and supported by a powerful coalition of trade unions, including the NASUWT, public service users and campaign groups, which are completely opposed to the deeply damaging package of cuts announced by the Government.

A mass turnout, along the lines of the public mobilisation that turned out for the Stop the War rally in 2003, would send a powerful message to Ministers that the British public does not accept their full-scale assault on public services, which will hit the weakest and most vulnerable hardest and decimate the life chances of a generation of young people.

The march will assemble at Embankment at 11am and move through the streets of the capital to demonstrate the strength of public opposition to the Government’s relentless drive to dismantle and undermine public services. On arrival at Hyde Park, demonstrators will hear from a variety of speakers, explaining why there is an alternative to this devastating package of cuts.

The NASUWT is organising fully funded transport from all parts of the country to London on 26 March. Please contact your NASUWT Regional Centre or Local Association for further details of the arrangements in your local area.

The rally and march will be fully stewarded and the NASUWT has been working closely with the TUC to ensure the safety and security of all those planning to attend the event.

Cuts are a FALSE ECONOMY

Ahead of the rally on 26 March, the TUC has launched a new website tracking the impact of the cuts across the UK and making the case for an alternative economic strategy.

False Economy argues that the Coalition Government’s cuts agenda will not help the economy to recover and will result in a Britain that is less progressive and more divided.

The website aims to empower and bring together communities in the fight against the cuts, providing tools to enable users to link up with campaigners in their area and share ideas and resources with other groups across the country.
