Come and learn with the RYA

Welcome to RYA training – a programme of courses designed to help you progress through your chosen activity. The expert tuition and sound advice offered by our training centres is just what you need to learn quickly and make the most of your time afloat, whatever your age, ability or aspirations.

So, how do you start?

On the following pages we outline the courses on offer from beginner level to expert. You don’t have to start at the beginning – simply pick the course most suited to your ability and experience.

Just like learning any other skill, learning to handle a motor boat is progressive. Don’t expect to master advanced manoeuvres or navigate long and complex passages until you have cracked the basics. It’s therefore important to be realistic when choosing your course. If in doubt call your local training centre for advice.

Where do you want to learn?

Our courses are run all over the UK and at lots of locations around the world, many of which are listed in this brochure.

RYA courses can only be run by our recognised training centres. We inspect those centres annually to check they are maintaining our high standards of instruction, safety and equipment, and only those centres are allowed to display our tick mark logo.

All the centres listed in this brochure are recognised by us. If you are researching courses elsewhere, always look for the tick mark logo and, if in doubt, call us to check if a centre is RYA recognised.

training centre will provide suitable clothing, buoyancy aids or life jackets. If you already have your own boat, your instructor can come to you so that you receive tuition directly relevant to your craft and how you want to use it.

If you’re thinking about buying your own boat but don’t know which to choose, have a chat with your instructor. They will be able to give you expert advice based on your experience, your budget and what you want to get out of your time afloat.

What do you want to do next?

There are so many opportunities to stay involved in boating. For example you may like to join a club, cruise in company, or work towards a career in the watersports industry. Whatever you choose, our courses are widely regarded as among the best in the world, so are the ideal way to help you achieve your goal.

Our website www.rya.org.uk has full details of our other courses, how to find your local club and careers advice.
