designing a mining town we undertook the urban development of the lumwana mining town in Zambia. the town needed to house around 1,200 people and include retail, commercial, civic, health, transportation and corporate aspects. natural areas including dams, riverines and wetlands, were kept free of urban sprawl and instead incorporated into the designs for the towns open space system. and to prevent the destruction of large areas of jungle, lobes were cut into forests and houses built along meandering streets.
