business The Manila Times SATURDAY BY BEN ARNOLD O. DE VERA REPORTER
ONVERGYS Corp. said it expanded anew its Philippine operations with the establishment of another contact center in Muntinlupa City.
In a statement, the business process outsourcing (BPO) firm said it opened a 68,000-square feet facility dubbed “Alabang Two,” wherein about 1,200 people would be employed. Alabang Two is the company’s second center in Muntinlupa, south of Manila. This newest site would jack up
Convergys’ Philippine employees to about 23,000—a third of its glo-
bal workforce. The company claims it is the biggest private employer in the country. “Convergys continues to add fa- cilities in the Philippines due to sig- nificant and continuing client de- mand for the very high quality cus- tomer service provided by our dedi- cated teams of agents,” said Marife Zamora, Convergys country manager for the Philippines and managing director for Asia-Pacific/EMEA.
“Adding additional, integrated facili- ties in the geographies our clients re- quest enhances our ability to deliver the outstanding customer service our agents provide, not only in the Philippines but across the globe. Since opening our first facility in the Philippines in 2003, we’ve experienced great success here and with our agent population and talented management team, I’m convinced this success will continue,” Zamora said. Besides Alabang Two, Convergys has 12 other facilities in the Phil- ippines—seven in Metro Manila, three in Cebu City, and one each in Bacolod City and Santa Rosa City, Laguna.
The Cincinnati, Ohio-based com-
pany has about 65,000 employees in 66 facilities worldwide.

SLI cleared on share sale
STA. Lucia Land Inc. (SLI) said its mi- nority stakeholders approved a plan to raise funds through a share sale. Following its special stockholders meeting, SLI told the bourse that its parent firm, Sta. Lucia Realty & De- velopment Inc., would sell a portion of the shares it subscribed to, pur- suant to the property-for-share swap between the two companies. Under the agreement, Sta. Lucia
Realty will sell the shares and sub- scribe to new common shares in SLI, which would not exceed the volume offered in the placing transaction at a subscription price equivalent to the placing price.
The SLI board will determine the amount to be raised from the trans- action, as well as the timetable for the implementation.
SLI also said that it secured share-
holder approval to ratify the waiver of the requirement to conduct a rights offer or follow-on offer in connection with the transaction. Pending the approval of the Se- curities and Exchange Commis- sion, SLI will also undergo an eq- uity restructuring involving the application of its additional paid- in capital based on its audited fi- nancial statements as of Decem- ber 31, 2009 to the concurrent amount and against its deficit of P427.14 million. In 2007, SLI debuted at the Phil- ippine Stock Exchange through a backdoor listing. It acquired Zipporah Realty Holdings Inc. through a property-share swap. SLI shares fell from P1.82 on
