His work has focused on the epidemiology of hospital-associated infections, especially bloodstream infections (BSIs) and sepsis. Dr. Wenzel is a nationally recognized expert on antibiotic resistance and its impact and was named one of the 10 “Great Teachers” in the category of Clinical Medicine Service by The National Institutes of Health in 2001.
