Recreational activities near hydroelectric facilities are unsafe.
Ontario Power Generation would like to remind you to stay clear of our dams, hydroelectric stations, nearby shorelines and surrounding waterways. Hydroelectric generating stations operate all year round and can have a significant effect on water flows and levels. These changes can happen suddenly and often without warning. At some of our dams, the gates are operated remotely. In just a matter of minutes, calm waters can become turbulent and dry riverbeds can fill with powerful rushing water. Areas near dams are definitely not safe places for recreational activities. Please obey all warnings, including signs, booms and buoys. If you see water levels changing, move immediately to a safe location.
