Renewable Energy 

Feeding the national grid…

The UK’s feed-in tariff has been created to provide an incentive for energy producers to invest in renewable energy sources, which are more expensive to produce than traditional fossil fuels.

O

n April 1st 2010 the UK Government to introduced a new feed-in tariff as an incentive for energy producers to move away from fossil fuels to renewable energy sources. As Europe’s

largest manufacturer of enclosures for the photovoltaic (PV) industry, Spelsberg els is placed to support this initiative, with a range of products designed to help energy producers create efficient, renewable electricity. Spelsberg has over 20-year’s experience with the PV industry, originally supplying enclosures that provided superior levels of protection for the harsh environments solar technology is usually exposed to. As the company became more experienced in the industry it began to develop products designed specifically for PV technology. As a result, Spelsberg is now the leading European manufacturer of PV- designed enclosures, offering a full range of products supported by a large, dedicated development team. In addition to its standard range of PV enclosures, such as the PV-Connection Box and Generator Isolation Housing, Spelsberg uses its expertise to work closely with clients that require customised products: communicating with them at each stage of development to ensure the ideal solution is delivered. Every product in Spelsberg’s PV range is subjected to a battery of tests, to evaluate more than 20 quality- related parameters, including weather resistance, UV protection and to ensure that heat dissipation is achieved especially with regards the Generator Isolation Housings. All products that pass receive the necessary

certification to ensure the customer receives a fully compliant product for technical DC installations which also includes UL 94 fire protection Spelsberg is a supplier of enclosures, ex stock in the UK, and so is able to offer delivery on very short lead times - often within 24 hours. Customisation is possible on any product, including bespoke entries, engraved corporate logos or fitted terminals, within 48- hours. Te new feed-in tariff has been created to provide an incentive for energy producers to invest in renewable energy sources, which are more expensive to produce than traditional fossil fuels. Te tariff fixes an above- the- market rate for utility companies to buy electricity from renewable energy producers, meaning that in the long- term, a return is guaranteed on the producer’s investment. Te cost of this return is then spread across all of the utility company’s customers.

Te UK has committed to reducing its carbon emissions and has created the tariff in the hope that the scheme will encourage the growth of renewable energy technologies, as it has in other countries, such as Germany, where over 14% of electricity comes from renewable sources. Spelsberg is the largest supplier of non metallic

enclosures, ex stock in the UK, and so is able to offer delivery on very short lead times – often within 24 hours. Customisation is possible on any product, including bespoke entries, engraved corporate logos or fitted terminals, within 48 hours. l
