World Teachers’ Day reception


Wednesday 6 October, 5pm, NUT HQ, London. Achieving Education for All: Investing in Teachers


World Teachers’ Day, launched by Unesco in 1993, gives governments and the public the chance to show their awareness of the vital contribution made by teachers to the lives of children. Come and join the NUT’s celebrations.

Retired teachers’ conference

This conference offers an opportunity for retired members to meet and discuss a range of topics. The fee is £17, including lunch. (NUT divisions and associations may have funding available.)

Anthony Walker memorial lecture


Friday 22 October, 5pm, International Slavery Museum, Liverpool


Writer and broadcaster Bonnie Greer will deliver the fourth annual lecture in memory of Anthony Walker, the Merseyside A level student murdered in a racially motivated attack in 2005.

LGBT teachers’ conference


Saturday 6 November at NUT HQ, London


Lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) members can share ideas and experiences, receive updates about NUT campaigns and discover ways to get involved in the union. Speakers include Marc Lewis of Massachusetts Teachers’ Association and Bev Ayre of Project Triangle.

NUT black teachers’ conference

This annual conference features guest speakers, workshops, and the opportunity to debate a motion to go to next year’s NUT annual conference. All black and minority ethnic members are welcome.

Get active in your union


The NUT’s national training programme offers a wide range of courses for NUT members and school representatives.


All courses (except NUT reps level one) take place at the NUT national training centre, Stoke Rochford Hall, in Lincolnshire. All costs are covered by the NUT. Apply now for this term.

Train to be a learning rep


Learning is core NUT business. NUT learning reps are central to this. They promote NUT learning and CPD, carry out local learning needs surveys, organise local courses and much more.


Sign up for the next FREE accredited NUT learning reps’ course, to be held at Stoke Rochford Hall from Wednesday 23 to Friday 25 March 2011. Travel costs are covered by the NUT.


And join in at the forum! The 2010 national learning reps’ forum at NUT HQ in London on Saturday 20 November will hear guest speakers Tom Wilson, Director of Unionlearn, and Alan Gibbons, education campaigner and children’s author. Lunch and refreshments are provided and travel expenses covered by the NUT. Members interested in taking on the role should come along!
