On July 28, 2010. Col. Hillman served 28 years in the U.S. Air Force. After retiring from the Air Force he was employed by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission until his retirement in 1990.


He was preceded in death by his loving wife Peggy Prescott Hillman and son-in-law John Tysen. Surviving him are his children Marian Tysen of Myrtle Beach, Charles R. Hillman and wife Susan of Chelmsford, MA, Robert Hillman and wife Sue of Melbourne Australia, Michael Hillman and wife Tammy of Grove City,OHalong with fourteen grand- children and eight great grandchildren.


Col. Hillman will be interred at Arlington National Cemetery with Full Military Hon- ors, 1 p.m. on November 18, 2010.

Esther Jeanne DerVartanian Oliver, age 88, died at her Mandeville, Louisiana home on Friday, August 6, 2010, after being hospitalized for a severe reaction to the IV injection, Reclast. Born in Detroit, Michigan, she was the devoted wife and partner to the late Claude Pintard Oliver of Great Falls, Virginia, and had moved to the New Orleans metro area shortly before Hurricane Katrina with her daughter, Jeanne Marie Mueller and son-in- law , Captain Bob Mueller, US Coast Guard, now retired. Mrs. Oliver was in theWAVES Corps in the U.S. Navy Reserve.


She served her country proudly in both World War II and the Korean War. She went on to serve her country while working in the CIA, where she met her husband, and the two of them worked around the world before settling in the Washington, D.C. area. Esther was the third child born of Armenian immigrants, her father being the only family survivor of the Turkish massacre of 1915. She is predeceased by her oldest brother, Andrew DerVartanian. She leaves behind three sisters: Anna DerVartanian, Roxie Sahakian and Ardis Gregory. Mrs. Oliver leaves behind three children, Dr. Mark J. Oliver, II, Richard Armen Oliver and Jeanne Marie Mueller; six grandchildren, Mark J. Oliver, III, Kathryn Rose Oliver, Elizabeth Ann Oliver, Andrea Lynn Oliver, Robert Pintard Mueller and Kelsey Marie Oliver Mueller; daughter-in-law, Sharon Lynn Start Oliver; and son-in-law, Robert Glenn Mueller. Anna was born in Coeburn, VA and grad- uated from Coeburn High School. She received her degree as a Registered Nurse from the University of Toledo College of Nursing in 1952. She worked as a R.N. at the University of Virginia Hospital, Char- lottesville, VA; Johns Hopkins University Hospital, Wilmer Eye Clinic, Baltimore, MD; and the Floating Hospital for Children, New England Medical Center, Tufts Medical School Boston, MA.


Anna and Joseph were married in Balti- more, MD at Baltimore Cathedral on June 23, 1962.


She was a member of Saint Claire of Assisi Catholic parish in Clifton, VA for over 35 years.

Peacefully on August 8, 2010 she passed and is survived by her husband of 58 years Robert James Dompka; their son Regis (Elaine) of N.Carolina, son Robert Von (Leslie) of Texas, daughter Victoria (Adam )Markham of Connecticut and daughter Rhea (Dr. Pedro) Villanueva of Virginia as well as the pride and ever joy of their lives the grandchildren, Clara, Rafael, Gabriel, Tessa, twins Eric and Emily, twins Christo- pher and Kevin and Alec. Dora is survived by sisters Rose DeCorte of Virginia, Eileen Croft of Pittsburgh and Elisabeth Sidoris of Cranberry Township, PA and a brother Vincent (Pearl) Ritzert of Pennsylvania and a host of nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by brothers Russell and Nid. Of a giving and supportive nature Dora was devoted to her family, her church and to the lives of friends and others. A visitation will be held Saturday, August 14, 2010 at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, 15663 Norbeck Boulevard, Silver Spring, Maryland (contiguous to Leisure World of MD) at 11 a.m. with the Mass of Christian Burial at Noon. Interment will be private. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice in her memory.

Graduated from A.T. Johnson High School in 1961. Beloved father of William Jr. of Silver Spring, MD and Keith of District Heights, MD, and grandfather of Saaquan and Kennedy. His sister fondly remembers that when growing up with Fred that he could be rambunctious at times. Fred was gifted in many ways, a talented person and a true performer. He was kind hearted and very giving. An avid fan of baseball and football, two of his favorite teams were the Baltimore Orioles and the Washington Redskins. For you see God’s design was not done in vein but in love. To everything there is a season (Ecclesiastes 3:1-13) Now our season is to weep and mourn. Fred you are loved and will always be missed.


FRED PHIFER


Fred E. Phifer was born on August 7,1957 in Charleston, WA to Clyde and Alice Phifer. He died on August 4, 2010 at the age of 52 in Woodbridge, VA. He attended Charleston High School in Charleston, WV and Berea College in Barea, Kentucky, accomplishing a degree in Politi- cal Science. He was married on May 25, 1984.


He was active in local politics in WV and ran for Magistrate in Charleston. At the time of his death he was employed with the Federal Government as a computer analyst for over 20 years. He was active in the communities in which he lived, volunteering


Fred is survived by his son and wife, Tevin and Mary Phifer. As well as his brother, Jerome Phifer, sisters Claudia Phifer Watkins and Suzanne Carter (All of Charleston, WV) Sisters Ella Phifer and Alberta Ray (Cleveland, Ohio) and a host of nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents Clyde and Alice Wherle Phifer and his brothers Clyde Phifer, Jr (died in active duty-Vietnam War) and Frederick “Freddie” Wherle.

Funeral Arrangements in Virginia were handled by Mountcastle Turch Funeral Home and in West Virginia by Preston Funeral Home. Services offici- ated by Rev Oliver Clark and Rev. Clyde Burns. Interment will be at Spring Hill Cemetery in Charleston, WV.
