Almost any way you look at it, our low CO2 emissions are a great money-saver for businesses. Take company car tax, for example. It’s based on a car’s P11D, so businesses that drive smart are on to a winner. Why? Because P11D values are calculated from a percentage of the car’s list price (including options), and its level of CO2 emissions – for the smart fortwo, you always benefit from a rate of 15% or less. business as it is to ours, then the smart fortwo is the perfect choice for you. From its conception, smart has always considered its impact on the environment, we like to make sure everything from the design and production stages through to the vehicle itself is as environmentally compatible as possible.


smart’s mhd (micro-hybrid drive) system is a wonderfully simple way of significantly cutting down on emissions and fuel costs, without having to compromise on performance. It works by stopping the engine at times when the vehicle is stationary, for example when queuing in traffic. The benefits (and the savings) quickly add up, especially in urban situations. mhd is now standard on all 61bhp and 71bhp fortwo coupé models.


Another star performer is the fortwo cdi, a diesel smart that uses the world’s smallest direct injection engine to achieve dazzlingly economical results. With a combined mpg of up to 85.6, the figures speak for themselves. And as an added bonus, the fortwo diesel attracts no car tax thanks to its exceptionally low emissions of 88g/km.


With this focus, and a recyclability rate of 85%, it isn’t hard to see why we were recently awarded an environmental certificate from the Öko-Trend institute. What’s more, the smart fortwo is set to become even more eco-friendly. An electric powered, zero-emission smart is currently on trial in the UK.
