Intern Organisation


ARK is an international charity, whose purpose is to transform children’s lives – established in 2002 by a group of successful business leaders from the alternative investment industry with a shared vision to deliver results which improve the life chances of children. ARK maximises its impact by creating and managing innovative programmes which it rigorously researches, monitors and evaluates to ensure the work it undertakes is effective and sustainable.


The Position ARK is seeking interns to drive projects and research as a leading member of an internal team, working across a broad range of sectors. These themes include economic development (e.g. stimulating small business growth), education (leadership development and schools), children in care and treatment of HIV. Interns will be responsible for analysis and collation of data and will work closely with ARK staff, academics and practitioners in the field. They will establish relevant contacts, carry out interviews, and develop business plans for transformative social impact. These roles will be based in the United Kingdom with possible travel to Southern Africa and Asia as required.


The successful candidates must be able to quickly analyse and turn around pieces of research. They will have some previous knowledge of/background in one of ARK's themes (as outlined above) and have 2+ years experience in strategic consulting/investment banking research or in a top flight graduate scheme. Essential skills are quantitative and qualitative research/ consulting skills, critical thinking ability and an understanding of conceptual and analytical systems. Entrepreneurial experience is also a plus.


These positions offer the right candidates a great opportunity to apply commercial skills to the non-profit sector and to learn how to operate in a development context with very senior stakeholders from industry and government as well as with experts, front line workers and beneficiaries on the ground. It is ideal for those interested in gaining social enterprise experience, learning about venture philanthropy and experiencing 21st century international development.


Engagements will typically last from 3-6 months and can be fulfilled on a full- or part-time basis.
