‘tiefenschon’
With the winds of fashion always apt to whip up hype around certain cities and labels, it’s inevitable that quietly unassuming, yet equally deserving releases, get lost amongst the column inches of hyperbole. Which makes discovering an album like The Timewriter’s ‘Tiefenschon’ (out now
on Plastic City) all the more rewarding.
Totally on the money in terms of its old school ethic, whether it be the swirling syths and looped-spoken word of ‘High on 24’, the keys and chopped diva vocals of ‘Back In School’ or the subterranean depths of ‘Creatures of the Night’, it’s an immaculately
produced album for a discerning listen who doesn’t feel the need to prefix the word ‘house’ with anything else.
That it’s producer Jean F. Cochois’ sixth album only goes to show that you don’t need to be the new boy on the block to deliver an absolute gem. Seek out now.
