FIFA World Cup South Africa 2010!

The World Cup in June could be the start of your school’s international journey

YOU could link your school or one of your classes to a group of schools in Europe and share views about the World Cup from the other contending countries. A great starting point for a discussion is: How can football bring us closer when we are all rooting for our own teams? From there you can move into a wealth of subjects, communication skills, languages and ICT – we have project templates available and ideas you can share with teachers all over Europe. You could even start a Comenius project and access funding of up to £15,000 next year, and your work will count towards DCSF International School Award accreditation.

OR would you like to exchange views in a safe online community with schools from Europe or Sub Saharan Africa? How can the World Cup benefi t Africa as a whole? Get your class thinking – and linking.*

OR for the most ambitious, you can request a school link in a Sub Saharan African country. This is a serious undertaking and we’d expect you to offer whole school support and take part in a British Council managed programme. Charges may apply if we link you through an NGO for extra support with the link.

Please email us now to take up one of the above offers. partnerfi nding@globalgateway.org Don’t forget to tell us which of the above options interests you and give the name and local authority of your school. You will need to register fi rst at http://www.globalgateway.org/register so we can send your profi le to potential partner schools in Europe or Africa.

If you are new to our service, we’ll send you a free CD and information about school linking, which can be used to support the global dimension, community cohesion, citizenship, humanities, English, ICT and languages. Please tell us if you have a particular requirement.

* Charges may apply for individual student logins (optional)

We’ll also send you a great list of World Cup resources.
