For Film Lovers

Just a taste from this mouth watering and award winning short created in 2005 by Australian director, Anthony Lucas, using his own developed form of silhouetting. From IMDB: Set in a world of iron dirigibles and steam powered computers, this gothic horror mystery tells the story of Jasper Morello, a disgraced aerial navigator who flees his plague-ridden home on a desperate voyage to redeem himself.

Other notably steampunk films include Castle in the Sky along with many other fantastic animations by Hayao Miyazaki. I think several Terry Gilliam films have a steamy cast about them - Brazil, Baron Munchausen & the latest, Dr. Parnassas. I loved the airship in Stardust, by director/writer, Matthew Vaughn. And I was sorry not to see more of the Philip Pullman trilogy

in film after The Golden Compass. Just last night, I watched A Series of Unfortunate Events

with my kids (now teens) for the nth time and was struck by how much steampunk seems to

have an influence there as well.
