CHP SOLUTION

engine powered gensets and converting it into usable, free heat and

PROVIDING FREE HEAT

I

mproving energy efficiency, by capturing waste heat from

hot water is the primary focus of the EJ Bowman stand (number AWM5) at NEMEX, part of the Sustainability Live exhibition.

Surprisingly, many UK genset manufacturers have yet to capitalise on the opportunities to move their products from power only, to full CHP, with all the environmental and commercial benefits this can bring.

By capturing waste heat from exhaust and cooling systems (which would otherwise escape to atmosphere), gensets can provide heating and hot water at no additional cost in terms of fuel usage or emissions to the environment. In fact, Bowman heat exchangers are so efficient the can reclaim up to 60% of all lost heat from the engine and achieve total performance efficiencies of up to 92%!

Throughout the exhibition Bowman engineers will be available to advise on heat exchanger technology to

enable genset producers to reap the benefits of CHP. They will also be

exhibiting examples from their extensive range of exhaust gas and cooling system heat exchangers, plus oil, fuel and charge air coolers.

Another first at NEMEX will be the launch of a new ‘compact’ exhaust gas heat exchanger that has been developed especially for the fast growing smaller (16 KVA) engine powered genset market. Though small in size, this fully welded stainless steel unit combines all the features and qualities that have made Bowman market leaders, offering manufacturers of smaller gensets a high performance solution for moving into CHP.

New Voltis ‘smart’ voltage optimisation system at NEMEX

most technologically advanced and effective voltage optimisation system currently available in the UK.

V

Voltis, launched by

Marshall Tufflex Energy Management earlier this year, represents the next generation in voltage optimisation technology, offering end users virtually guaranteed power savings of 17%, with 20% or more achieved on many installations.

The secret of its success lies in its intelligent operation. Voltis constantly monitors incoming supply and outgoing voltage, plus load being drawn, and adjusts automatically to harmonise power supply with demand, maximising savings for clients while delivering brilliant carbon reduction results. Mains supply peaks and troughs are evened out and Voltis switches to stand-by if supply dips too low or a

isitors to NEMEX will have the chance to learn more about the

‘brown out’ occurs. The system will even turn itself off when there is no power demand, saving further on electricity usage. Voltis is a self-cooling system (either by fan or air conditioning built in), removing the risk of a overheating and failing, as

can happen with standard voltage optimisation units. In short, Voltis remains live and active at all times, giving clients surety of power supply, peace of mind and great financial/environmental benefits. Marshall Tufflex Energy Management works with the Carbon Trust to offer interest free funding for installations. Typical investment payback is within three years – much less for some clients. Case studies are available on completed installations, as is technical literature giving full details of the system. Visit stand Q17 at Nemex to find out

Biddle add radiant panels to their range

A

s one of the leading companies in the HVAC market Biddle have responded to customer comments and extended their product offering to include high quality radiant panels. The range comprises four different styles of radiant panel, each being suitable for specific applications and building types. All offer innovation in design, output and efficiency, as well as being lightweight and easy to install. Heatwave flat panels designed to fit within a typical ‘T’ bar false ceiling are particularly suited to offices and school classrooms, whereas Heatwave Plus is a linear flat panel often used in hospitals or sports halls with ceilings as high as 10m. For applications with high ceilings, where high output is necessary, the profiled surface and part exposed tubes of Heatwave Eco offer an innovative solution, and for the latest in radiant panel design technology the angled edges to the panel sides of the Heatwave Eco Plus provide an additional 15% energy savings and 81% radiant output.

All Biddle radiant panels have been tested and accredited in accordance with the latest European standard EN 14037 72:2003, and the accuracy of the performance and construction quality independently verified.
