Trading standards:
n Experts ‘on the beat’ implementing national policy to support fair and competitive markets, honest enterprise and good business.
n Protecting standards, an on- the-ground activity that is vital to the livelihoods and safety of our communities.
n A friend to the consumer, an advisor to business and the scourge of the scammer, rip-off merchant and serious organised crime.
n A brand reassuring to consumers and business alike and an integral part of consumer, citizen and business confidence.
Adequately funded trading
standards are fundamental to: n Facilitating economic recovery n Protecting the environment n Improving the health of society n Strengthening community safety
The trading standards service (2009) costs in the region of £140 million per annum, and employs 3,215 full time equivalents (FTEs)².
