Talking about my Generation
Recently qualifi ed PADI Junior Open Water Diver and Sharm resident,
Thomas Johnson, decided to do his bit for the marine environment
during his day off school in February. The ten-year-old, who qualifi ed
in November last year, buddied up with an instructor from Red Sea
Diving College for a dive in Naama Bay to pick up litter from one
of Sharm’s most popular shore dives. ‘I have done about 11 dives,
most of them in Naama Bay,’ Thomas told BLUE. ‘It was mostly plastic
bags and a few beer bottles that we picked up. They [clean-ups] are
important because they make a better environment. Marine animals,
such as turtles can die if they eat plastic bags. I haven’t seen a turtle. I
don’t want them to die because I want to see one.’
