When they came out everyone was raving about how good they were to drive, quoting mpg figures and saying how practical they were. And they were right, the Type 2 was fantastic. My first experience of one, however, was not so great. Aside from the pitifully slow engine and the lack of brakes, it was akin to driving a large metal box, and not very comfortable.
