ur friends Marcy Clark, Sonja Leix and Elisha Dang, who run

the Women’s Mafia Social Club in New York, invited us to
attend and cover their New York Fashion Week events. We
couldn’t resist the opportunity to be in New York during one
of the most important fashion events the United States has to offer, as
well as the opportunity to see the latest collection by one of our favorite
designers, Johnathan Kayne.
The first Women’s Mafia Fashion Show, on February 9, 2010, also
incorporated a Fashion Week Kick-Off Party where we mingled with edi-
tors from Vogue, buyers from Bergdorf Goodman and New York Social-
ites. The show kicked off with a live performance by Nathan Morris, a ris-
ing star pop singer who is a true Southern heartthrob. The fashion show,
styled by global fashion stylist to royalty Engie Hassan, featured collec-
tions by the winners of the Women’s Mafia “Are You Runway Ready?”
Fashion Week contest. The first designer, Ardistia, had a sophisticated,

big trend for Fall/Winter 2010. The second designer, Shauntele, featured

feminine, versatile, timeless pieces, our favorites being a crème-colored
ladylike dress that evoked 40s film stars and a Schiaparelli-inspired dress
with shocking pink silk and black lace. The third designer was Johnathan
Kayne, who is known for dressing Miss Universe, Miss United States and
Miss America finalists, as well as his much loved stint on Project Runway
Season 3. His gowns were definitely crowd pleasers and looked perfect
on the high-fashion models.
The Women’s Mafia ladies also invited us to their “Leather & Lace”
Fashion Show at the Bryant Park Hotel on February 17. This event, right
across from the tents at Bryant Park, was so popular and packed that
we almost didn’t get in. We were one of the lucky 500 to make it into
the swanky and fun Cellar Bar and watch the show. This fashion show
featured two very contrasting styles, Couture Rock Regalia by Stella Zotis
and Blanche Du Mois Lingerie by Alisha Trimble. Though the designers
definitely had different aesthetics, the collections came together under a
fun rock-and-roll theme with the styling by Engie Hassan of EngieStyle and
jewelry by Lisa Linhardt.
Next year, V Magazine will definitely be back for Fashion Week and
RSVPing with the Women’s Mafia! V
