NQTs – Know Your Rights
What every newly qualified teacher needs to know!
The induction year is very demanding. To meet the standards required to pass, newly qualified teachers (NQTs)
have to demonstrate the ability and commitment to build on the professional skills, talents and expertise gained
during initial teacher training.
Knowing your rights as well as your responsibilities is essential if your induction period is to be
productive and provide. It is important for you to know what you can do if you are not getting
the help and support to which you are entitled.
This is why the NASUWT produces Know Your Rights, a handy, quick reference guide to your
rights as a newly qualified teacher. This guide is produced in four versions to meet the
requirements of the four home nations.

them. Being an NASUWT member enables you to seek advice, guidance and support if there is any
