It’s not always obvious if a Torsional Vibration Damper (TVD) is damaged
or defective but problems with the TVD can lead to drive belt damage.

Surface hardening with
microcracking on the vibration
damper is a sign of aging
The ring of elastomeric material
on the back of the torsional
vibration damper is clearly
deformed. This damage is often
overlooked in inspections because
the pulleys are not removed and
are only examined from the front
The front side of the torsional
vibration damper is usually in
good condition, while the reverse
side has already sustained
damage
